Things to Do on During the Meghul Wedding Weekend!

If you've got some time to kill between wedding events, here are some suggestions for what to do. The concierges at the hotels will be able to direct you to each of these places/events:

  • Fleet Week: If you arrive in San Francisco and hear incredibly loud fighter jets flying over your head, don't worry, it's not Putin rearing his head and coming into United States airspace through Alaska, it's Fleet Week! Click here for information on when and where you can go to see performances by the Blue Angels, Canadian Snowbirds, and Parades of Ships! It's actually quite awe-inspiring, especially watching residents of the most liberal city in the country get giddy about fossil fuel consumption and tacitly supporting the military-industrial complex. Seriously though, it's pretty awesome. Just don't get so caught up in all the flying that you miss the bus to the wedding.
  • SFMOMA: The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is just a 10 minute walk from the wedding hotels. It's a gorgeous building and there's some interesting new Chinese contemporary, Matisse and Paul Klee stuff to see.
  • Contemporary Jewish Museum: Also a 1o minute walk away and just a stone's throw from the SFMOMA, is SF's new amazing piece of architecture and culture--the Contemporary Jewish Museum. Everyone who's gone there has come away raving about it.
  • The Ferry Building Farmer's Market: Walk 15 minutes to the end of Market Street and you'll find the recently remodeled Ferry Building. It's a great place to wander around, sample bits of gourmet food, and see the European side of San Francisco. Plus on Saturday from 8am-2pm, there's an awesome, if overpriced, farmer's market. You too can be a bleeding-heart arugula eater!
  • Golden Gate Park--California Academy of Sciences and the DeYoung Museum. A bit further afield (about a 30 minute bus ride away), check out Golden Gate Park! The new Cal Academy of Sciences just opened and it's a super green building, and supposed to be quite excellent. Right across the plaza is the DeYoung Museum, which is always worth a visit, partly for the art, and partly to walk up in the tower and get a beautiful view of the park and the city.
  • Litquake--San Francisco's literary festival will be ending on the day of the wedding, so if you get into town early, click here to see if there any events you're interested in.
  • Just Walk Around--Just head north from the hotels and you'll end up passing through Chinatown and North Beach (the Italian section where Kerouac used to hang out) before reaching Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. Hang a right and you'll find the Bay. Hang a left and you'll find Nob Hill and the cable cars. It's a beautiful city to get lost in, but not so lost you don't make it back for the wedding!

Enjoy it everyone. Let us know if you'd like other suggestions.
